Q&A with 4 Potential New Seminarians

I am looking forward to the seminary because....

Besides being a beautiful campus with a great academic program and a spiritual as well as fraternal atmosphere, I am finally feeling great peace about my vocation. I have gone from telling God that “I’ll be a priest....I guess...if you want me to” to discovering that it is a vocation which I, though unworthy, would be honored and TOTALLY excited to undertake. I can’t wait ‘till this fall! -JonMarc

I am looking forward to the seminary because I want to know more about my faith, and am excited about living and learning with other men completely absorbed by their love for God. -Zach

I am looking forward to the seminary because of how my relationship with God may grow. -Travis

I am looking forward to the seminary because it will be an opportunity for me to grow ever closer to Christ. The chance to pray and live with other men to discern the priestly vocation will support me. I also look forward to the fraternal spirit of the seminary. -Sean

I am __% certain that I want to be a priest. The things the seminary will do that will help with discernment are....

I am about 85% certain I want to be a priest, though, whether I am meant for the priesthood remains to be fully seen. My vocation at the moment is to simply be open and to take opportunities as they come. If I work the foot pedals, God will steer! -JonMarc

I am 90% certain I want to be a priest. Some things that the seminary will do that will help me with my discernment is having us live out the vows of a priest and to see and live the life of a priest on a daily basis. –Zach

I am 100% certain that I want to be a priest. Some things the seminary can do that will help with discernment is to continue to show me all aspects of the the priesthood. -Travis

I am 60% certain that I want to be a priest. Some things the seminary will help with discernment is that the seminary will help me to become more focused on my possible priestly vocation. The seminary will help spiritually and academically on my calling. I know that I must follow God's will, not just my own. -Sean

What do your friends think about you entering the seminary?

Although I have received the full array of responses, disbelief, respectful affirmation, the joyful embrace, almost all of my friends are excited for me and respectful of the possible calling. Thank you Jesus for amazing young men and women in my life! -JonMarc

My friends are very excited that I'm entering in the seminary, and they are hoping and praying that I can become a priest. -Zach

My friends are not surprised as they used to call me "Popeboy". -Travis

My friends from school and youth group have supported my decision. I know that my relationship with them will not change. They find it interesting, and always ask questions about the seminary. -Sean

The thought of being a priest is exciting because...

During my discernment thus far, I have begun to see how my personal characteristics could fit into a priestly vocation. I see how things that I like about myself, things that I don’t like, and things I fear leaving behind, all would help me appreciate the priesthood and minister to other people. The thought of becoming a priest is exciting because, like a puzzle, God’s plan looks more beautiful the more pieces you put together. -JonMark

The thought of being a priest is exciting because to be a minister of the sacraments and to be able to touch people’s lives in such an important way is such a great gift. Priests change people’s lives for the greater glory of God. I want to change people’s lives. -Zach

The thought of being a priest is exciting because it is a special call form Jesus to serve the Church. The priesthood is exciting due to its way to reach out to God's people. This is especially true in the Eucharist, when we receive the Body and blood of Christ. The priesthood is of service to Christ and His people. -Sean
